Women's Basketball Suffers Loss at Louisiana Tech

RUSTON, La. - The University of Hawai'i women's basketball team dropped their second straight road game Saturday night, losing 90-53 to Louisiana Tech at the Thomas Assembly Center in Ruston, La.

The Rainbow Wahine started slow Saturday night and never caught up. UH suffered back-to-back road losses on its longest road trip of the season. Thursday night, the Rainbow Wahine lost to New Mexico State and traveled all day Friday before arriving in Ruston late at night.

Since leaving on Monday night, and upon their return Sunday night, the Rainbow Wahine will have traveled close to 11,000 miles. With the loss UH falls to 8-13 overall and 2-6 in WAC play. Louisiana Tech improved to 10-10 overall and 4-3 in conference.

Saturday night, the Rainbow Wahine were led offensively by Megan Tinnin, who connected on five 3-pointers for 15 points.

First-year basketball player and volleyball standout Tara Hittle saw her most minutes so far this season, scoring six points and grabbing nine rebounds.

As a team the Rainbow Wahine shot 34 percent, their second straight game shooting in the 30 percent range. UH also committed 27 turnovers, while Louisiana Tech had 11 turnovers.

In the opening half Saturday night, the Rainbow Wahine allowed the most points in the first half this season and trailed 51-24 at the break.

UH got off to a slow start and never recovered, as it shot 33.3 percent (9-27) from the field and committed 15 turnovers. Meanwhile, Louisiana Tech played one of its best 20 minutes of the season, shooting 60 percent (21-35) from the field, including 4 of 7 from long range.

The Rainbow Wahine return to action at the Stan Sheriff Center Thursday, February 7 when they host Utah State at 7 p.m. Thursday's game is the beginning of a four-game homestand for UH.
