Women’s Basketball Closes Classic With Loss to No. 5 Stanford

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai`i women's basketball team faced its second consecutive ranked team Sunday, and unfortunately the result was the same. UH fell to No. 5 Stanford 83-54 in the final game of the Waikiki Beach Marriott Classic.
 
The Rainbow Wahine were up against a tough team, their highest ranked opponent since 2006, but hung tough in the first half. Stanford pulled away in the second half, ending the classic with a 3-0 record. UH finished the classic 0-3.
 
On Sunday, UH was led by Sarah Ilic, who scored a career-high 15 points, including 6-of-12 from the field. Keisha Kanekoa joined Ilic in double figures, scoring 12 points on 5-for-9 shooting.
 
Senior Catherine Cho made her second straight start and recorded a career-high eight points in a career-high 34 minutes of action. Freshman Jennifer Hamilton made just her second appearance in a UH uniform and scored her first two points.
 
Overall, UH shot 44 percent from the field and 33 percent from 3-point range. Stanford shot 55 percent from the field and 24 percent from long range.
 
In the first half, the Rainbow Wahine were led by Ilic, who scored 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting and Catherine Cho added three points. UH shot 45 percent in the half, while Stanford shot 60 percent.
 
The Rainbow Wahine return to action Tuesday, Dec. 2 when they host Utah Valley at 7 p.m. at the Stan Sheriff Center.

No. 22 IowaState 87, San DiegoState 71
In the opening game Sunday, Heather Ezell scored 21 points and had seven assists for Iowa State. Alison Lacey added 17 points, six rebounds and six assists and Nicky Wieben added 11 points in the win. For San Diego State, Jene Morris scored a classic-high 34 points, including five 3-pointers. Paris Johnson had 14 points and 10 rebounds and Quenese Davis added 13 points in the loss.
 
No. 19 Purdue 65, Prairie View 51
The Boilermakers were led by Lakisha Freeman, who had 20 points. Danielle Campbell had 12 points and 15 rebounds and Lindsay Wisdom-Hylton added 11 points and 10 rebounds in the win. Prairie View was led by Dominique Smith, who had 19 points in the loss.
