HONOLULU – The University of Hawai`i women's soccer team opens the 2008 WAC Tournament against host Nevada on Thursday, Nov. 6 at 5:30 p.m. (3:30 p.m. HT). The Rainbow Wahine earned the No. 3 seed in the tournament, while the host Wolf Pack are the No. 6 seed.
After finishing the regular season with a 4-2-1 conference mark and 13 points, UH narrowly missed earning a first round bye in the tournament. The top two teams, No. 1 Utah State and No. 2 Fresno State earn a bye into Friday's semifinal games.
Overall UH finished the regular season 8-6-4 and have won three straight games and four out of its last five. Nevada finished conference 2-4-1, losing its final two games and are 2-13-3 on the season.
One of Nevada's wins came against UH earlier in the season, a 1-0 final on Oct. 10. The last time the WAC Tournament was held in Reno in 2006, UH lost to Nevada in the first round of the tourney. UH has lost its last three games against Nevada in Reno.
The tournament field includes six teams, with No. 1 Utah State set to face the winner of the No. 4 Boise State and No. 5 San Jose State winner on Friday. The winner of the UH and Nevada game will face No. 2 Fresno State. Both Idaho and Louisiana Tech failed to make the six-team tournament.
