MOSCOW, Idaho – The University of Hawai`i women's soccer team beat Idaho 2-1 Sunday afternoon in Moscow, Idaho, ending the WAC regular season on a three-game winning streak.
The Rainbow Wahine finished conference play with a 4-2-1 record and 13 points. Overall UH ends the regular season 8-6-4. With the win, the Rainbow Wahine finish in third place in conference and head to the WAC Tournament as the No. 3 seed.
The WAC Tournament begins Thursday, Nov. 6 in Reno, Nev. The No.3 seed faces the No. 6 seed, with the winner facing the No. 2 seed on Friday. The championship game will be held on Sunday, Nov. 9.
UH closed the regular season winning four out of its last five games, including back-to-back road victories. The Rainbow Wahine also finished the regular season over .500 for the second straight year.
Against Idaho, UH rallied in the second half to score two goals, including
Colleen Burns' first career goal. Six minutes into the second half,
Ambree Ako's shot bounced off goalkeeper Liz Boyden and bounced in front of Burns, who scored in the 51
st minute.
After tying the game, three minutes later UH got on the board again when Idaho tried to clear the ball and deflected it into the goal, giving UH the lead for good.
The offense continued to pile on the shots Sunday, recording 22 shots, with 12 shots on goal.
Taryn Fukuroku had eight shots with four on goal, Ako had three shots with two on goal and Burns had two shots on goal.
Defensively UH was led in goal by
Kori Lu, who recorded six saves in the game. The defense gave up 11 shots and only allowed one goal for the second straight game.
