SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Competing with heavy hearts, the University of Hawai'i coed sailing finished fifth at the PCCSC Fall Championships, held Nov. 15-16 . The Rainbows sailed less than a week after the untimely death of sophomore sailor
Peter "PJ" McGonigle Wenner, who passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 11.
All boats carried the letters "PJ" on their mains in memory of Wenner. A total of 48 races were completed in three divisions over the course of two days as 22 teams vied for the championship. Stanford won the regatta with a total of 164 points, a comfortable 46-point margin over second-place St. Mary's.
UH tallied a total of 320 points. Will Peterson and Erin McGee competed in the A division, finishing fifth with 96 points.
Zach Hester and
Darla Baldwin place sixth in the B division with 111 points. Meanwhile,
Andrew Meade and
Ryan Wild tallied 113 points for seventh place in the C division.
The Rainbows will kick off its spring season with the Rainbow Invite, Jan. 17-18, at Keehi Lagoon.
