Lajola Bows Out In Second Round Of Honolulu Futures

WAIPAHU, O`ahu – University of Hawai'i sophomore Dennis Lajola lost his second round match in the main draw of the USTA Honolulu Futures tournament, Thursday, at the Patsy T. Mink Central Oahu Regional Park Tennis Complex.

Lajola, the defending Honolulu Futures champion, was upset in straight sets to Adam El Mihdawy of New York, 6-3, 6-4.  “It was a battle from the first point,” said Lajola.  “I couldn't get my rhythm and my serve going.  Mentally I just couldn't get it together this match.”

The sophomore was seeded No. 8 in this year's event and has a current ITF rank of No. 787 and is No. 89 in the ITA singles rankings. Lajola currently leads the team with a 6-2 singles record.

Seven of the nine Rainbow Warriors were represented in the USTA's Pro Circuit singles and doubles tournament. The pro circuit tournament continues throughout the week. The Rainbow Warriors will conclude the fall season with a mock dual match against Pac-10 powerhouse Stanford on Nov. 25 in Wailea, Maui.
