Game Notes
The University of Hawai'i Warrior football team will make a 10-day, two-game road trip beginning with Saturday's Western Athletic Conference match-up with Utah State. Kickoff is 1:00 p.m. MT (9:00 a.m. HT) at Romney Stadium.
The Warriors (4-4, 3-2 WAC) evened their record after a thrilling 38-31 home win over Nevada last Saturday. Backup quarterback Greg Alexander found Malcolm Lane for a 24-yard touchdown with 20 seconds left. Alexander, who rotated with starter Inoke Funaki in the second half, directed the Warriors to three scoring drives including a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns, snapping the team's five-game scoreless drought in the period.
The Aggies (1-7, 1-3) suffered a heartbreaking 30-28 loss to Fresno State last Saturday in Logan, Utah. Marquis Butler's one-yard touchdown run put Utah State ahead 28-27 with 38 seconds left. However, the Bulldogs marched downfield and kicked a 58-yard game-winning field goal as time expired.
Hawai'i and Utah State have met eight previous times with each team winning four. Since the Aggies joined the WAC, the Warriors have won all three meetings and have scored 50 or more points each time. In 2006, UH dismantled the Aggies 63-10 as quarterback Colt Brennan tossed six touchdowns and passed for 413 yards.
After the Utah State game, the Warriors will remain on the mainland for next Saturday's contest with New Mexico State in Las Cruces, N.M.
