WAIPAHU, O`ahu – The University of Hawai`i women's soccer team scored three goals in the second half and came back to beat Louisiana Tech 4-2 Sunday night at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium.
On senior night for the Rainbow Wahine, six players went out with a win as UH improved to 2-2-1 in WAC play and 6-6-4 overall. Louisiana Tech fell to 0-2-4 in conference play and 10-4-5 overall.
The Rainbow Wahine fell behind 1-0 early in the game but battled back to tie the game 1-1 after
Nicole Mikula took a free kick and scored her third goal of the season. After giving up a penalty kick, UH trailed 2-1 at the break.
In the second half, UH turned on the offense. Just 10 seconds into the second half, Louisiana Tech was called for a foul in the box, leading to a UH penalty kick.
Ambree Ako scored the goal, tying the game 2-2. The goal was the fastest second half goal in school history.
The two teams remained tied until the 63
rd minute, when
Rachel Domingo scored her first career goal off an assist by
Taryn Fukuroku. Prior to the goal,
Mari Punzal headed the ball of the crossbar, followed by a Domingo shot off the crossbar. Domingo's shot then went to Fukuroku, who hit the ball of the post, which then bounced right back to Domingo, who scored the goal.
Fukuroku put the game away in the 84
th minute, scoring her sixth goal of the season off a nice pass from
Kelli-Anne Chang.
Overall, UH had 19 shots, with six shots on goal, while Louisiana Tech had five shots and three on goal.
The Rainbow Wahine conclude WAC play with road games at Boise State on Oct. 31 and at Idaho on Nov. 2. UH then heads straight to the WAC Tournament, which begins Nov. 6 in Reno, Nev.
