Women’s Soccer Drops Heartbreaker Against Utah State

WAIPAHU, O`ahu – The University of Hawai`i women's soccer team dropped a heartbreaker to Utah State Friday night, 2-1 at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium. The Aggies scored the game-winning goal with seven minutes remaining in the game.
 
After UH battled back in the second half to tie the game, Utah State scored with 7:18 remaining in the game to remain undefeated in Western Athletic Conference play.
 
UH fell to 1-2-1 in conference play and 5-6-4 overall. Utah State improved to 5-0-0 in conference and 10-7-1 overall.
 
In the first half, Utah State got on the board early, scoring 4:40 into the game. The lead held until early in the second half.
 
UH tied the game when Ambree Ako dribbled down the right side and crossed the ball to Taryn Fukuroku, who beat Utah State goalkeeper Ali Griffin, for her fifth goal of the season.
 
Both teams played a physical game, with UH notching 25 fouls and Utah State had 18 fouls. The score remained tied until the 83rd minute.
 
Overall UH had 10 shots with three shots on goal, while Utah State had seven shots and four shots on goal. Kori Lu recorded two saves in goal.
 
The Rainbow Wahine conclude their home schedule Sunday against Louisiana Tech at 5 p.m. Six seniors will be honored following the game.
