Heinemann and Lajola Win Again at ITA West-South Region Championships

MALIBU, Calif. - University of Hawai'i senior Sascha Heinemann and sophomore Dennis Lajola advanced to the round of 16 at the Wilson/Intercollegiate Tennis Association West-South Region Championships, Saturday, at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center.

Heinemann crushed Gautam Vaidyanathan of UC Irvine in two quick sets, 6-1, 6-0. Lajola rolled past Eugene Brazdil in straight sets of tennis powerhouse UCLA, 6-4, 6-2. Junior Andreas Weber, seeded No. 10 and ranked No. 76 in the ITA preseason rankings, dropped a tough three-set decision to Moodi Kamel of Pepperdine, 6-3, 1-6, 6-2.

Heinemann, seeded No. 8 and ranked No. 53, will face ninth-seeded and No. 65 ranked Omar Altmann of Pepperdine. Lajola, seeded No. 13 and ranked No. 89 will compete against fifth-seeded and No. 42 ranked Andres Arango of Arizona.

In doubles play, the dynamic duo and the No. 8 seeded team of Heinemann and Weber lost to the No. 1 seeded team of Robert Farah and Steve Johnson of USC, 8-3, in the quarterfinals. Farah and Johnson are ranked No. 11 in the ITA doubles preseason rankings.

Eight singles players and four doubles team represent UH in the tournament. The five-day individual singles and doubles tournament includes players from 11 West Region teams. The tournament continues throughout the week.
