MALIBU, Calif. - The University of Hawai'i men's tennis team completed day one of the Wilson/Intercollegiate Tennis Association West-South Region Championships, Thursday, at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center. Eight singles players and four doubles team represent UH in the tournament.
In doubles play, all four Rainbow Warrior teams competed in the second round after receiving byes. The dynamic duo and No. 8 seeded team of senior

Andreas Weber beat Tyler Bowman and Gautam Vaidyanathan of UC Irvine, 8-3. The team of senior

Spence Mendoza ousted UC Riverside's Raineir Matias and Sean Peterson, 8-4. The duo of sophomore
Dennis Lajola, freshman Leo Rosenburg, and the team of sophomore
Craig Faulk and freshman
Chad Rubin were ousted in the round of 32.
In singles play, Rosenburg won his first round match against Cal Poly's Blake Wardman, 6-4, 6-3. Rubin and Fitch both dropped their matches and will now play in the consolation singles draw. Weber, Heinemann, Lajola, Faulk, and Mendoza all received first round byes and will play on Friday in the second round.
Weber, seeded No. 10 and ranked No. 76 in the ITA preseason rannkings, will play Matt Tosches of San Diego State. Heinemann, seeded No. 8 and ranked No. 53, will face Rob Foy of Cal Poly. Lajola, seeded No. 13 and ranked No. 89 will compete against Philip Therp of UC Santa Barbara. Mendoza will play Tom Wolff of San Diego and Faulk will face Stephen Stege of UC Irvine.
The five-day individual singles and doubles tournament includes players from 11 West Region teams. The tournament continues throughout the week.
