Women’s Soccer Earns Scoreless Tie Against Fresno State

FRESNO, Calif. – The University of Hawai`i women's soccer team played Fresno State to a 0-0 tie in its second WAC match of the season Sunday afternoon at Bulldog Stadium in Fresno, Calif. The overtime match was the Rainbow Wahine's eighth of the season, setting a school record.
 
With the tie, UH moved to 0-1-1 in WAC play and 4-5-4 overall. The Rainbow Wahine began WAC play on Friday with a 1-0 loss at Nevada. Fresno State moved to 1-0-1 in conference play and 5-7-2 overall.
 
Sunday's match was the second straight time the Rainbow Wahine have gone into overtime at Fresno. UH is 2-2-4 in its eight overtime matches. The previous record for most overtime matches played in a season was seven in 2004.
 
The Rainbow Wahine once again took twice as many shots as their opponent. UH had 12 shots, with 11 shots on goal against Fresno State, while the Bulldogs managed six shots, with four on goal.
 
Senior forward Taryn Fukuroku led the way with three shots, all on goal and Chelsea Deptula and Nicole Mikula each had two shots, both on goal.
 
Senior goalkeeper Kori Lu played solid in net, recording four saves, playing all 110 minutes.
 
UH returns to the island and will play three straight home WAC games, beginning Sunday, Oct. 19 against San Jose State. The game versus the Spartans will be at 5 p.m. at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium and will be shown live on KFVE-Channel 5.
