SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - The University of Hawai`i men's tennis team ended its five-match losing streak on the road with a 5-2 triumph over the Cal Poly Mustangs, Thursday, at the Mustang Courts. Despite losing a close 4-3 match on Monday at Loyola Marymount, the Rainbow Warriors improved their record to 5-10 on the year.

The Mustangs (5-7) won the doubles point by winning all three matches. The duo of senior Chad Faulk and sophomore Jeff Fitch lost a tight 8-6 decision to the team of Darryn Young and Robert Foy at the No. 3 court.

Despite losing the doubles point, the Rainbow Warriors fought back and won five of the six singles matches. UH freshman Andreas Weber won his 12th dual match of the season by cruising past Matt Baca at the No. 1 position, 6-3, 6-0. Weber, ranked 54th in the latest FILA Collegiate Singles Rankings, has won 12 of his last 14 singles matches and improved to 21-6 overall, 12-2 in dual matches.

At the No. 3 court, Faulk defeated Kyle Roybal in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3 and senior Derrick Lajola beat Robert Foy at the No. 4 court, 6-3, 7-5. Freshman Spence Mendoza earned his first dual match victory of the season by breezing past Fred Dewitte, 6-1, 6-0, at the No. 5 position. At No. 6, Fitch dropped Nick Berger, 6-4, 6-2. Sophomore and No. 98 Sascha Heinemann lost a heartbreaking match in the third-set super tiebreaker to Young at the No. 2 court, 7-5, 2-6, 1-0 (6). The loss was just Heinemann's second in his last 11 dual matches.

The Rainbow Warriors return to play their final two home matches of the year against Azusa Pacific (April 9) and BYU-Hawai`i (April 18), at the UH Tennis Complex.
