HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (16-8) defeated the Wisconsin-Milwaukee Panthers (0-10) 9-2 in front of a crowd of 2,179 at the Les Murakami Stadium Friday.
Ian Harrington (4-4) got the win, allowing two runs of seven hits in 5.1 innings, striking out six. Robert Michalkiewicz (0-3) took the loss.
Jayson Kramer came in and pitched 2.2 innings with just one hit and four strikeouts to earn a save.
Justin Frash led the 'Bows, going 4-for-5 with two doubles, one RBI and two runs. Kris Sanchez also went 4-for-5 with three runs and two RBI while Jonathan Hee was 3-for-5 with a double and two runs.
The Panthers got on the scoreboard early, putting up a run in the first. UH finally answered in the fourth as Vinnie Catricala drove in Sanchez to tie it at 1-1. Hawai`i then took the lead in the fifth, scoring three runs on two UWM errors, making it 4-1.
Wisconsin-Milwaukee added a run in the sixth and were threatening to take the lead back in the seventh, loading the bases with just one out. But Kramer came in and was able to get Hawai`i out of the jam with a 4-2 edge.
The Rainbows then pulled away in the seventh and eighth innings. Frash started it up by doubling in a run. Sanchez then drove him in with Catricala and Jorge Franco also driving in runs in the four-run seventh. Sanchez also drove in the run in the eighth, making the final 9-2.
The two teams play a doubleheader tomorrow at 1:05 p.m. at the Les Murakami Stadium. The first game will be a nine-inning game, followed by a seven-inning game after.
