Box Score

HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (4-2) won the rubber-match over Georgia Southern (1-2) 2-1 in front of a crowd of 2,086 at the Les Murakami Stadium Saturday. Tyler Davis pitched 4.0 innings in relief, allowing just one run and four hits, to get the win. Brian Wilkerson pitched well for GSU, taking a no-hitter into the sixth inning, before allowing UH's two runs in the game to take the loss.

Kris Sanchez came up big for the Rainbows, going 1-for-2 ith two RBI, a double and a walk. Justin Frash and Brandon Haislet both went 1-for-3 with a run each.

Starter Joshua Schneider pitched well, allowing no runs on six hits in 5.0 innings, striking out four in the no-decision.

The Eagles threatened in the second inning, loading the bases. But Schneider was able to get out of it, keeping the game scoreless.

In the meantime, Wilkerson was shutting down the Rainbow lineup, as he didn't allow his first walk until the fourth inning. In the sixth, Wilkerson got the first two outs before having to face UH's three, four and five-batters in the lineup. Frash and Haislet both singled before Sanchez hit a two-run double down the right line, putting the 'Bows ahead 2-1.

GSU answered with a run in the top of the seventh, and looked primed to tie it up in the eighth, putting runners on first and third with just one out. Davis induced a pop up to get the second out. Then Elijah Christensen made a diving stop on a hard-hit ball up the middle, flipping it to second baseman Nathan Young while lying on his stomach to preserve Hawai`i's 2-1 victory.

The Rainbows next host the Pacific Tigers for a three-game series at the Les Murakami Stadium, starting Friday, Feb. 9, at 6:35 p.m.
