Second-Half Surge Lifts LMU Over UH

Box Score

LOS ANGELES - Loyola Marymount scored two second-half goals to hand the University of Hawai`i Rainbow Wahine soccer team a 2-0 loss Thursday afternoon at Sullivan Field. Hawai`i dropped to 7-3-1 and remained winless in three road matches this year.

Katie Osbourne got the Lions on the board in the 57th minute, while Jessica Sharpe added an insurance goal in the 80th minute to give LMU (7-3-1) its school-record seventh straight win. Meanwhile, the Lions handed UH its seventh straight road loss dating back to last year.

Hawai`i controlled the pace in the first half, but LMU picked up its play after the break to beat UH by a 2-0 score for the second straight year. Four days after scoring a school-record 11 goals versus Hawaii Pacific, UH was held scoreless for just the second time this year.

LMU struck first on a header by Katie Osborne 11 minutes into the second half. Defender Amanda Lernor started the play when she lofted a ball over the top of the UH defense to a streaking Gabrielle Parisella on the left flank. Parisella chased the ball down then sent a cross to the mouth of the UH goal, where Osborne finished with a header.

The Lions tacked on its second goal with 10 minutes left in regulation. UH goalkeeper Kori Lu stopped a shot by Lily Sorentino, but Jessica Sharpe but home the rebound to secure the LMU win.

Hawai`i next faces its second straight West Coast Conference foe when they travel to Pepperdine on Sunday, Oct. 7. Kickoff is at 1:00 p.m. PDT (10:00 a.m. HST).
