Rainbow Wahine Bow Out of West Region Championships

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team completed day two of competition at the Wilson/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Western Regional Championships, Friday, at the Barnes Tennis Center.

In doubles play, the team of senior Chloe Bihag and sophomore Sophie Kobuch was ousted by Riza Zalameda and Yasmin Schnack of No. 3 UCLA, 8-1, in the second round of the main doubles draw. The duo of Zalameda and Schnack received the top seed in the tournament and is ranked No. 4 in the ITA preseason doubles rankings.

In singles play, Bihag lost a straight-set match to Nadia Abdala of No. 18 Arizona State, 6-2, 6-0. Abdala, seeded No. 4, is ranked No. 24 in the ITA preseason singles rankings. Senior Julia Sandborn, sophomore Marie Tanaka, and Kobuch all lost in the first round of consolation singles play.

The Rainbow Wahine will next play a mock dual match against No. 2 and Pac-10 Champion Stanford Cardinal on Nov. 20 at Wailea, Maui.
