HONOLULU - The Hawai'i women's track and field team hosted the third of nine Sunset Meets, Saturday, at Cooke Field. The Rainbow Wahine are preparing for their next indoor meets this weekend in Seattle, Wash.
Sophomore Candace Rosenthal ran 8.06 seconds to win the 60m. Rosenthal also won the 60m hurdles in 9.50 seconds, edging teammate Nicole Wright (9.86).
Sophomore Ashley Monfort completed the 150m dash in 19.86 seconds while Kendra Monroe finished the 300m in 45.76 seconds.
In a tightly contested 600m finals, sophomore Sharlene Carillo (1:41.00) edged teammate McKenzie Wallace (1:42.00) by nearly two tenths of a second.
In the mile, sophomore Chantelle Laan set a new personal best with a time of 5:11.23.
Monroe also took home top honors in the long jump (4.67m, 15-3.75). Sophomore Meghan Weaver heaved 13.15m (43-1.75) in the shot put while senior Novelle Murray captured the weight throw title (17.86m, 58-7). Junior Patricia Gauthier leaped 3.80m (12-5.50) in the pole vault.
This weekend, the Rainbow Wahine will compete in the Husky Classic, Saturday, Feb. 11, and Washington Open #3, Sunday, Feb. 12.
