Mason's Three Goals Pace Rainbow Wahine By Aztecs, 7-3

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Freshman Kelly Mason scored three goals as fifth-ranked Hawai`i knocked off No. 9 San Diego State, 7-3, today in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match at The Salvation Army Kroc Center.

The Aztecs (3-2, 0-1 MPSF) opened with an early 1-0 lead on a goal by Becca Ur in the first two minutes of action. But back-to-back goal's by UH's Iefke Van Belkum and Kelly Mason gave the Rainbow Wahine a 2-1 advantage at the 1:50 mark. SDSU knotted the score at two on a 4-meter penalty shot by Stacy Werner with 20 seconds left in the first.

The Aztecs came out and took a 3-2 lead in the second on a goal by Rachel Serna. Hawai`i then went on a three-goal scoring barrage late in the quarter on goals by Mason, Lisa van Raalte, and Van Belkum to go up 5-3 at the half.

Single goals in the third and fourth quarters by UH's Anna Sieprath and Mason, respectively, capped the scoring, 7-3.

The Rainbow Wahine (4-4, 2-2 MPSF) continue their road trip at the UCSB Gaucho Invitational Feb. 25-26. UH's first opponent is No. 12 Michigan on Saturday.
