BERKELEY, CALIF. - No. 6-ranked California scored three straight goals to close the third quarter on their way to an 8-6 victory over No. 4-ranked Hawai`i Friday afternoon in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match at Spieker Aquatics Complex.

The Golden Bears (2-0, 2-0 MPSF) began the game with the first two goals of the contest, but the Rainbow Wahine (1-1, 1-1 MPSF) scored two goals of their own by freshman Kelly Mason and junior Kristy Bagnall to finish the first quarter tied at two.

In the second quarter Cal senior Lauren McGee scored a goal with 4:37 remaining, but the game was quickly tied up by UH's Anna Sieprath. The Rainbow Wahine scored again with 1:18 remaining on Bagnall's second goal in the second quarter to take a 4-3 lead into halftime.

The third quarter was dominated by the Bears, beginning with a goal by Cal freshman Stephanie Schnugg with 4:49 remaining. Mason scored the Rainbow Wahine's lone goal of the quarter with 3:28 on the clock. But that is when the Golden Bears went on a scoring spree to end the quarter; Windes, Brittani Llorente and Holly Farlin each scored a goal bringing the score to 7-5 as the fourth quarter began.

Hawai`i's Amy Logan and Cal's Windes each scored one goal in the fourth to cap the scoring in favor of Cal, 8-6.

Hawai`i participates in the Stanford Invitational the next two days. UH is scheduled to play No. 16 Arizona State, No. 1 UCLA, and No. 6 Cal before entering the championship round.
