Arkansas Races Past Hawai`i, 70-56

Box Score

HONOLULU - Arkansas used a second-half surge to defeat Hawai`i, 70-56, in the semifinals of the Hawaiian Airlines Rainbow Wahine Classic Saturday afternoon at the Stan Sheriff Center. Danica Crosby scored a game-high 24 points to guide the undefeated Lady Razorbacks (7-0) to the tournament championship game.

Arkansas will take on the North Carolina, a 101-63 winner over Gonzaga, in the Classic championship Sunday at 5:30 p.m., while Hawaii will play face the Bulldogs in the tournament's third-place game at 3:20 p.m.

Wearing black jerseys in a home regular-season game for just the second time ever, UH got off to a slow start, scoring just two points in the first seven minutes. The Rainbow Wahine, however, went on a 10-2 run to take the lead and after missing eight of its first nine shots, converted on 12 of its next 19 to a enjoy 36-31 advantage at the break.

Arkansas, however, busted loose in the second half, led by Cosby. The freshman guard scored 14 points in decisive 20-4 run that turned a five-point halftime deficit into an 11-point lead just six minutes into the second half.

UH got no closer than eight points after that point as Arkansas maintained a double-digit lead in the final nine minutes of the game. After shooting 46 percent in the first half, UH's offense sputtered in the second half. The Rainbow Wahine also committed a season-high 24 turnovers to Arkansas' nine. UH out-rebounded the Lady 'Backs, 48-36, but Arkansas put up 72 shots to Hawai`i's 49.

Seniors Janevia Taylor and Brittany Grice accounted for more than half of UH's output, scoring 15 points each. Junior post player Tanya Smith added eight points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
