No. 63 Tigers Defeat Rainbow Wahine, 7-0

STOCKTON, Calif. - In the final dual match of its northern California road trip, the University of Hawai`i women's tennis team were shut-out by No.63 Pacific Tigers, 7-0, Monday, at the Hal Nelson Tennis Courts. With the loss, the Rainbow Wahine fell to 0-4 on the 2006 season.

The Tigers earned the doubles point by winning two of the three matches. The lone Rainbow Wahine victory came from the team of junior Florence Wasko and sophomore Chloe Bihag, who defeated Clara Schuhmacher and Helen Schneider, 8-3, at the No. 3 position.

In singles play, the Rainbow Wahine lost all six matches. Junior Kana Aikawa dropped a 6-2, 6-3 decision to Natalia Kostenko, at the No. 1 court. The Tigers clinched the match with a victory at the No. 3 position. Freshman Erin Katayama lost a close match to Jolanta Twarowska, 6-3, 7-6. Junior Samanta Cappella was also defeated in a tight match to Carla Tamborini, 7-5, 6-3, at the No. 4 court.

The Rainbow Wahine will return home to prepare for a six-match road trip starting Feb. 18 against Long Beach State and ending on Feb. 24 at UC Riverside.
