SEATTLE - The Hawai'i women's indoor track and field team broke two school records and set four personal bests at the Washington Invitational, Saturday, at Dempsey Indoor.
Senior Novelle Murray broke her own school mark in the 20-lb. weight toss with a heave of 17.83m (58-6) to finish third overall. The old record was 17.09m (56-0.75) set at last year's WAC Championships.
Newcomer Emily Sheppard set a new school record in the high jump, leaping 1.66m (5-5.25) which placed her fifth overall. Sheppard's just cleared the old mark of 1.64m (5-4.50) established by Olivia Smoody in 2003.
Sheppard also set a new personal best in the long jump, with a leap of 5.07m (16-7.50). Newcomer Michel Wilson ran a PB 5:22.85 in the mile and junior Candace Rosenthal sprinted 8.08 seconds in the 60m, also a new personal best.
The Rainbow Wahine will next compete in the Washington Open #2, Sunday, at Dempsey Indoor. UH will compete in a dual match with Cal Poly.
