Newcomers Shine At Sunset Meet #2

HONOLULU - Newcomers Annett Wichmann and Emily Sheppard put together impressive performances at the University of Hawai'i's Sunset Meet #2, Saturday, at Cooke Field. The meet was the second of nine being held throughout the track and field season at the UH campus.

Wichmann set a new personal best in the shot put and dethroned Hawai'i's top thrower from last season, Meghan Weaver. The German heaved 14.34m (47-0.50) beating out Weaver's 14.00m (45-11.25) toss.

In the high jump, Sheppard just missed out on a new UH record with a leap of 1.75m (5-8.75). The current record is 1.76m (5-9.25) held by Sarah McDiarmid.

Senior Novelle Murray nearly matched the school record in the weight toss, which she currently owns. Her heave of 17.05m (55-11.25) was an inch and a half shorter than her school record throw of 17.09m (56-1).

The Rainbow Wahine will compete in their first official indoor meet of the season this week. UH will split its squad at the Pole Vault Summit in Reno, Nev., and the Washington Indoor Invitational and Washington Open #2 in Seattle, Wash.
