FULLERTON, Calif. - No. 19 Cal State Fullerton controlled from start to finish in handing Hawai'i a 3-0 loss Thursday night at Titan Stadium. The Rainbow Wahine dropped to 3-5-2 on the season.
The struggles continue for UH. The Rainbow Wahine have picked up just one win in its last six matches (1-3-2) and remain winless on the road (0-3-1). Meanwhile, Cal State Fullerton won its fourth match in a row.
The Titans (8-2-0), playing their first home game in nearly a month, put heavy pressure on UH from the get-go and broke through in the 17th minute when senior midfielder Lisa Kosena sent a long shot from the right flank that found the upper corner of the far post.
The Titans second goal came less than five minutes into the second half. Rebekah Patrick launched a shot from 25 yards out which UH goalkeeper Kori Lu found too hot to handle. The freshman goalkeeper momentarily stopped the ball with two hands before it escaped her grasp and trickled into the net.
The final goal came late in the match. Lauren Cram sent a through ball to Lauryn Welch, who hammered home a left-footer from close range in the 86th minute. Cal State Fullerton unloaded 24 shots to UH's four. Lu, tested all evening, finished with a career-high 10 saves for UH.
The Rainbow Wahine next travel south to take on San Diego State on Saturday, Oct. 1. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. PST.
