HONOLULU - The Boise State women's tennis team snapped Hawai`i's four-match win streak with a 6-1 victory, Tuesday, at the UH Tennis Complex. In their final tune-up for this week's Western Athletic Conference Championships, the Rainbow Wahine drop to 9-14.
The Broncos captured the doubles point but not before the Rainbow Wahine duo of Lauren Fitzgerald and Paige Mainor pulled out a 9-8 (5) victory at the No. 1 court.
In singles play, BSU dominated just about every match except for the No. 1 court, where Fitzgerald recorded UH's only team point with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Alissa Ayling. Fitzgerald, ranked No. 111 in the latest ITA national rankings, won her team-leading 20th singles match of the season.
Returning to the line-up was sophomore Sylvia Jaros, who has not played a singles match since early April due to a wrist injury. Jaros dropped a 6-2, 6-0 decision to Megan Bjorkman at No. 2.
The match was the final regular season contest for four-year seniors Fitzgerald, Mainor, Justine Boutet and Kimberly Curtis.
The WAC Championships begin on Thursday. The Rainbow Wahine enter the tournament as the No. 6 seed, where they will face third-seeded SMU on Thursday. In the women's bracket, Rice is the top seed. First round action begins at 9:00 a.m.
