Isaac Omura came up big for UH, going 2-for-5 with a solo home run. Matthew Inouye also went 2-for-5 while Erik Ammon had a 1-for-3 game with one RBI.
The Bulldogs got on the board first as Beau Mills hit a two-out, two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning. Hawai`i squandered a couple of chances in the second and third innings. In the second, Omura was left on second. Then, in the third, the 'Bows hit into an inning-ending double play with the bases loaded, leaving them with a 0-2 deficit.
Omura led the Rainbows back in the fourth, leading off the inning with a solo home run to deep rightfield, cutting it back to 2-1. Kish followed by doubling down the left line, before scoring on a deep fly ball hit by Adam Roberts that was dropped by the Fresno State centerfielder, tying the game at 2-2.
But the wheels came off the bus in the bottom of the sixth as FSU scored two runs on a suicide squeeze that bounced up the middle of the infield. The 'Dogs then added two more on a single to right, capping a four-run inning that put them up 6-2.
The 'Bows mounted a small rally in the ninth as Ammon hit a RBI-single to right, but it wasn't enough as they fell by the final of 6-3.
The two teams will close out their series tomorrow at 1:05 p.m. at Pete Beiden Field.
