SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Hawaii women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to No. 49 San Diego, Tuesday, at the USD West Tennis Courts. The Rainbow Wahine (2-7) lost for the sixth time against a ranked opponent this season.
The Toreros captured the Nos. 2 and 3 doubles matches to earn the doubles point but not before UH's top team of Lauren Fitzgerald and Sylvia Jaros defeated Jenny Brown and Lauren Kazarian, 8-3.
In singles competition, USD's Emma Murphy, ranked No. 45 in the latest ITA rankings, defeated Fitzgerald, ranked No. 75, 6-2, 6-2, in the featured match. USD went on to win the other five singles matches without much trouble, except at No. 6, where Helene Lindstrand needed three sets to defeat UH's Kana Aikawa, 6-2, 1-6, (10-2), in a super-tiebreaker.
The Rainbow Wahine continue their road trip with matches against UC Riverside and Furman, March 2-3.
