Rainbows Drop First Game Of Series To Washington State, 14-3

HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (5-4) fell to the Washington State Cougars (6-5) 14-3 in front of a crowd of 2,091 at the Les Murakami Stadium Thursday. Ricky Bauer (1-1) took the loss for the 'Bows while James Freeman (3-0) got the win for Wazzu.

The Rainbows scored early in the first on a RBI-single by Isaac Omura, but saw the Cougars put up five, three and four runs in the third, fourth and fifth, respectively, to take the game away. Hawai`i mustered two more in the bottom of the fifth on RBI-singles by Matthew Inouye and Luis Avila, but it was too late, with Washington State taking it 14-3.

Inouye led the way for UH at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run. Omura aded a 1-for-3 game with one RBI while Avila went 1-for-2 with one RBI. Freshman Joseph Spiers had his five-game multi-hit streak end with a 1-for-3 game with a run, but was able to extend his overall hitting streak to nine games.

The two teams will play again tomorrow at 6:35 p.m., with Stephen Bryant (1-0) going against Washington State's Jayson Miller (0-1).
