Rainbow Wahine Snap Skid; Fitzgerald Ranked No. 75

DAVIS, Calif. - The Hawai'i women's tennis team snapped its three-game losing streak with a decisive 6-1 victory over UC Davis, Wednesday, at the Marya Welch Tennis Center. The win was the Rainbow Wahine's only victory on the five-match road trip through California.

The Rainbow Wahine won five of the six singles matches, highlighted by senior Lauren Fitzgerald's 6-1, 6-2 win over Ally Muller at the No. 1 court. The victory marked Fitzgerald's first since attaining a career-best No. 75 national ranking in the latest ITA Rankings released on Wednesday.

Other UH players winning their singles matches were sophomore Sylvia Jaros at No. 2 over Robin Guier, 6-4, 7-6, senior Justine Boutet at No. 3 over Audrey Wingo, 6-4, 6-2, senior Paige Mainor at No. 4 over Kaitlin Callan, 0-6, 6-3, 6-2, and senior Kimberly Curtis at No. 5 over Amanda Wise, 6-3, 6-4.

UH opened the match by capturing the doubles point with victories at the No. 2 and 3 courts. The team of Boutet and Jaros upended Amanda Wise and Laura Tidik, 8-5 at No. 2 while freshman Chloe Bihag and Curtis teamed for an 8-1 decision over Audrey Wingo and Ashley Lehman.

Fitzgerald earned her first national ranking (No. 94) on Jan. 11 after her impressive straight set victory over then-No. 7 Diane Hollands of Arizona in November.

After a one-week break, the Rainbow Wahine return to the Mainland for matches at San Diego, March 1, UC Riverside, March 2, Furman, March 3, and Cal State Fullerton, March 5.
