SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Hawai`i women's tennis team fell to No. 44 Sacramento State, 7-0, Sunday afternoon, at the Rio Del Oro Racquet Club. The Rainbow Wahine dropped to 1-6 and lost for the fifth time this season to a ranked opponent.

The Hornets grabbed a 1-0 lead after sweeping the doubles competition. The team of Margarita Karnaukhova and Anna Karaveyeva outlasted UH's Lauren Fitzgerald and Sylvia Jaros, 8-6. Fitzgerald and Jaros teamed up for the first time this season after senior Paige Mainor sat out the match due to flu-like symptoms.

Sac State captured all six singles matches as well. Fitzgerald and senior Justine Boutet put up the biggest challenges but still fell in straight sets. Fitzgerald dropped a 6-2, 6-4 decision to Karnaukhova at No. 1 while Boutet suffered a 6-1, 6-2 setback to Klara Petersson, in a match closer than the final score indicated at the No. 3 court.

"This team was really good," head coach Carolyn Katayama said. "They were pretty strong and hit the ball deep and hard. We played this match indoors which made the court fast. I was really pleased with Justine's effort. She's been really consistent all year long."

The Rainbow Wahine continue their road trip with a make-up match against San Jose State on Monday. First serve is set for 2:00 p.m. PST at the Los Gatos Swim and Racquet Club.
