WAIKOLOA - The University of Hawai`i women's tennis team completed its fall season with a 7-0 loss to Stanford, Tuesday, at the Hilton Waikoloa Village tennis courts. The Rainbow Wahine dropped all six singles matches and three doubles contests to the top ranked team in the nation.
In singles play, the Rainbow Wahine lost all six matches in straight sets. At No. 1, 2003 and '04 NCAA singles champion Amber Liu defeated Rainbow Wahine junior, Kana Aikawa, 6-0, 6-1. Junior Jacqui Williams fell to nationally ranked Alice Barnes, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 and fellow junior Samanta Cappella dropped a 6-0, 6-1 decision to Whitney Deason at No. 4. Sophomores Chloe Bihag and Julia Sandborn also fell in straight sets. Bihag lost to Theresa Logar, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 and at No. 5, Julia Sandborn was defeated by Jessica Nguyen, 6-2, 6-1. Freshman Erin Katayama fell in straight sets to Megan Doheny at No. 6, 6-1, 6-2.
The match was the final contest of the fall season. The Rainbow Wahine and Cardinal meet again during the spring season, Jan. 26, at the Stanford tennis courts.
