Hawaii Thumps Boise State, 3-0

Box Score

WAIPAHU, HI -- Hawai`i picked up its second straight conference shutout with a 3-0 decision over Boise State Sunday night at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium. The Rainbow Wahine improved to 5-6-2 overall and 2-0 in the WAC while winning back-to-back matches for the first time this season.

Midfielders Natalie Groenewoud and Jessica Domingo each scored their first goals of the season, while Natasha Kai netted her team-high ninth of the year, to lead UH to victory. The Rainbow Wahine thoroughly dominated the Broncos (7-5-2, 1-1 WAC), finishing with a 25-5 shot advantage. Goalkeepers Kori Lu and Mahie Atay combined for the shutout, UH's fifth of the season.

Hawaii got on the board early when Groenewoud settled a pass from Adria Campbell in the middle of the box and sent a low liner in the right corner 17 minutes in. UH put up 12 shots total in the first half, while the Broncos managed just one, which came 40 minutes into the match.

The Rainbow Wahine broke through again in the 79th minute. The play started when Kai sent a diagonal ball to a streaking Campbell. Campbell fired a shot that was stopped by Bronco goalkeeper Kim Parker, but Domingo cleaned up the rebound to put UH up 2-0. The Rainbow Wahine scored their third goal in the final minute of the match off a corner kick as Krisha Kai set up her sister, Natasha for a soaring header.

UH has now won nine straight conference home matches dating back to 2003 and 15 of its last 16 dating back to 2001.

Hawai`i next heads to the road where they will play four straight matches, three of them in conference. The Rainbow Wahine start the trip off with their first ever meeting with Louisiana Tech on Friday, Oct. 14. Game time is at 4 p.m. CDT.
