HONOLULU - Warrior quartrback
Colt Brennan threw for a career-high 515 yards and seven touchdowns to lead Hawai'i to a 49-28 win over New Mexico State in a Western Athletic Conference game Saturday night at Aloha Stadium.
A Homecoming crowd of 29,002 saw three Warrior receivers surpass the century mark, led by junior Chad Mock who finished with a career-high 10 catches for 147 yards and a touchdown in only his second career game as a Warrior.
Ryan Grice-Mullen finished with nine catches for 137 yards and four touchdowns, while Davone Bess added seven receptions for 218 yards and one touchdown.
Hawai'i (2-4, 2-2 WAC) jumped out to a 14-0 lead right out of the gates. Brennan hit Ross Dickerson for a 3-yard score, and Grice-Mullen on a 15-yard touchdown, after the Warrior defense forced an Aggie fumble.
New Mexico State (0-7, 0-3 WAC) got on the board when running back Justine Buries scored on a 4-yard run with 5:58 left in the first quarter. Brennan threw four touchdowns passes in the second quarter alone, three to Grice-Mullen, to help the Warriors take a 35-21 halftime lead that was never in jeopardy.
Brennan and Mock hooked up for a 44-yard score to highlight the second half. The touchdown put the game out of reach, 49-21, with 10:44 left in the game.
New Mexico State quarterback Royal Gill finished with 356 yards and two touchdowns and helped the Aggie offense gain 503 total yards. The Warriors gained a season-high 628 yards of total offense, 97 rushing and 531 passing.
Linebacker Kila Kamakawiwo'ole led Hawaii with nine tackles, including one of three Warrior sacks.
Hawai'i will travel to San Jose, Calif., to take on San Jose State. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday at Spartan Stadium.
