TULSA, Okla. - Hawaii dropped its second straight game on the road with an 83-64 loss to Tulsa Saturday afternoon at the Donald Reynolds Center. It marked the first time since the start of the season that UH (8-8, 4-5 WAC) has lost back-to-back contests.
The Golden Hurricane used a 16-4 run in the first half to take a comfortable lead then broke it wide open in the second half when they six of their 10 3-pointers. Megan Moody nailed five of those 3-pointers en route to a career-high 26 points for Tulsa (14-5, 6-3 WAC).
Amy Sanders led UH with 18 points and seven rebounds while Jade Abele added 12 points and six assists for the Rainbow Wahine.
Despite shooting 41 percent and nearly equaling Tulsa on the boards, the Rainbow Wahine again found difficulty winning as they couldn't shake the turnover bug. Two days after committing a season-high 26 turnovers at Rice, UH again matched that total.
Hawaii looked good early and held a 20-17 lead 10 minutes in. But then the offense stalled as the Rainbow Wahine went scoreless over the next seven minutes. Tulsa scored nine unanswered points and outscored the Rainbow Wahine 16-4 over the next 10 minutes to take a 33-24 lead into the locker room.
The Golden Hurricane didn't let up in the second half and built a lead as many as 25 points in UH' last visit to Tulsa, a Conference USA member next season. The 83 points was the most allowed by UH all season and was also the best offensive output by the Golden Hurricane.
Meanwhile, the road woes continued for the Rainbow Wahine who have now dropped nine of their last 10 away from home.
Hawaii next returns to the islands for a three-game home stand beginning with a contest against San Jose State on Saturday, February 5. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
