FRESNO, Calif.-- The University of Hawaii men's golf team stands in sixth place after the first round of the Western Athletic Conference Men's Golf Championships hosted by Fresno State. The Warriors shot a six-over 290 through the first 18 holes at the 6840-yard San Joaquin Country Club and are 13 strokes behind the pace.
Leading the way for UH is senior Matt Kodama who was the only Warrior to finish the first round under par. Kodama shot a one-under 70 at the par 71 course and is in a tie for sixth on the individual leaderboard. Also participating for the Warriors are junior Kellen-Floyd Asao (73, +2), freshman Cody Wolfenbarger (73, +2), senior James Beston (74, +3) and freshman Pierre-Henri Soero (78, +7).
SMU holds the team lead with a seven-under 277 and are seven strokes ahead of Fresno State and San Jose State. SMU's Will Dodson and Tulsa's David Inglis of Tulsa share the individual lead as both shot a four-under 67.
The WAC Tournament continues tomorrow with the second round of action.
