'Bows Fall 8-0 in Series Opener at San Jose State

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (31-22, 13-14 WAC) fell to the San Jose State Spartans (21-31-1, 9-19) 8-0 in front of a crowd of 569 at Municipal Stadium Friday. Ricky Bauer (8-4) took the loss while SJSU's Matt Durkin (8-5) pitched a complete-game shutout to get the win.

Andrew Sansaver went 2-for-3 to lead the Rainbow effort at the plate while Matthew Inouye was 1-for-2 with a walk.

The Spartans got on the board early in the first inning as Kevin Frandsen hit a triple to left field before scoring on a sacrifice fly.

The Spartans then added four unearned runs in the fourth and two more runs in the sixth to make it 7-0 after six innings of play.

SJSU added to their lead in the bottom of the eighth with another run to make it 8-0 going into the ninth inning.

The Rainbows were able to load the bases in the ninth but Durkin was able to finish off his masterpiece, leaving the 'Bows without a run on the board.

The two teams will play again tomorrow at Blethen Field at 3 p.m. with Stephen Bryant pitching against SJSU's Corey Cabral.
