WAIPAHU - The Hawai'i men's tennis team routed Cal Lutheran, 6-1, Monday afternoon, at the Central Oahu Tennis Complex, to improve to 8-12 overall.
UH won two of the three doubles matches to get off to a strong start. The team of Dalibor Ptak and Ryan Sceats defeated Quinn Caldaron and Shara Surabi, 8-4, at No. 1 for their fourth consecutive victory. Derrick Lajola and Bryon Weinberg ousted Karlo Arapovic and J.V. Vallejos, 8-4, at No. 2 to secure the doubles point for the Warriors.
In singles competition, Hawai‘i won five of the six matches each in straight sets. The only blemish for the Warriors was Junya Hasebe’s 7-5, 4-6, (11-9) victory over Lajola at No. 4. Sceats swept Caldaron, 6-3, 6-0 at the top singles position for his team leading 14th victory. Weinberg snapped a personal five-match losing streak with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Surabi at No. 3.
The Warriors take the next week off before returning against Azusa Pacific, Monday, April 12. Earlier this season, UH dropped a 6-1 decision to APU, the top-ranked team in NAIA. Match time is set for 2:00 p.m. at the Central Oahu Tennis Complex.
