WESTMONT, Calif. - The Hawai'i men's tennis team concluded its four-match road swing through California with a 5-2 victory over Westmont, Tuesday afternoon, on the campus of Westmont College. The Rainbow Warriors conclude its four-match road trip with a 3-1 record and improved to 6-11 overall.
Hawai‘i took all three doubles matches to take the early 1-0 lead against NAIA’s 15th-ranked team. The Rainbow Warriors then won four of the six singles contests for the 5-2 victory. Head coach John Nelson switched his lineup replacing Dalibor Ptak with Ryan Sceats at the No. 1 court. Ptak, in the midst of a five-match losing streak since winning Western Athletic Conference player of the week honors, Feb. 10, defeated Tony Larson at the No. 2 court, 7-6 (6), 6-4.
Sceats wasn’t so lucky in his new role, falling to Thommas de Liefde, 6-1, 6-3. The Rainbow Warriors then won the Nos. 4-6 spots in straight sets, led by freshman Jamie Migia’s 6-0, 6-0 sweep of George Canete at the No. 6 court.
“We wanted to get Dali in the habit of winning again,” Nelson said of the switch. “Ryan was playing well and we wanted to reward him by moving him up to No. 1. He’s been by far our most consistent player in both doubles and singles.”
UH returns to Honolulu, where they host Southwest Missouri State, Friday, March 26, at the Central Oahu Tennis Complex.
