Kodama Finishes Seventh at Western Intercollegiate

SANTA CRUZ, Calif.-- University of Hawaii men's golfer Matt Kodama continued his spectacular senior campaign with a seventh place finish at the 58th Western Intercollegiate hosted by San Jose State. Propelled by Kodama, Hawaii shot 283 on the final day, the top score of the 15 teams in the field, yet the Warriors could only muster a 14th-place finish with a 893 total.

Kodama, who stood in a tie for 20th after the first two rounds shot a one-under 69 to climb up 13 spots into a tie for seventh at the 6,445-yard Pasatiempo Golf Course. Kodama totaled 212 for the tournament and finished in the top 10 for the sixth time in eight events this season. The Warriors, meanwhile, shot decidedly better in the final round after posting back-to-back 305 scores in the opening two rounds. Also participating for the Warriors were senior James Beston (224, T50 place), freshman Pierre-Henri Soero (229, T66th), junior Ben Douglas (232, T70th), and junior Kellen-Floyd Asao (242, 77th).

Kane Webber shot a two-under par 68 in the final round to capture individual honors and lead his team, Colorado, to the team championship. The Buffaloes, who entered the day tied for first place with California and Georgia Tech, finished with a 54-hole total of 852, two strokes ahead of California. Webber was one of three golfers in the 78-player field to post two sub-70 scores in the three-round tournament and with a 206 total defeated Bret Lederer of Long Beach State by one stroke.

The Warriors next compete at the Bite/Pacific Coast Intercollegiate, hosted by UC Santa Barbara, April 5-6.
