Warriors Drop First on Road at Azusa Pacific, 6-1

AZUSA, Calif. - After finding victory on the road at UC Riverside and Claremont McKenna, the University of Hawai'i men's tennis team failed to capitalize on their winning momentum, dropping a 6-1decision at Azusa Pacific, the No. 1-ranked team in NAIA.

The day got off to a rocky start, with the Warriors falling short in doubles competition and losing the first point of the day. Dalibor Ptak and Ryan Sceats lost a close match (8-6) on the No. 1 court to Azuza Pacific's Sam Fletcher and Adam Davidson. Similarly on the No. 2 court, Jarrod Diepraam and Travis Smith narrowly lost to Tom Jelsma and Boris Bakalov, 8-6.

In singles play, the Warriors only win came on the No. 6 court, with Jamie Migia beating Tom Jelsma, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2. On the No. 5 court Diepraam split sets with Gordon Hong but failed to win the third set, dropping the match 2-6, 6-2, 7-5.

The Warriors now travel to Westmont University where they will face Westmont on Tuesday at 2:00 PM PST.
