Warriors Defeat Division III No. 10 Claremont-McKenna, 6-1

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Hawai'i men's tennis team began its weeklong road trip with a 6-1 victory over Claremont-McKenna, the No. 10 ranked team in NCAA Division III, Saturday, at the Ben F. Smith Tennis Courts. The Rainbow Warriors improve to 4-10 on the year.

Hawai`i got off to the 1-0 lead after winning the Nos. 1 and 3 doubles spots. The team of Dalibor Ptak and Ryan Sceats upended John Michael Chamakoon and Kyle Ellison, the 17th-ranked Division III doubles team, 9-8 (4) to get things started at the No. 1 court. CMS took the No. 2 doubles before the Rainbow Warriors rallied for a 9-7 victory at the No. 3 court, as Derrick Lajola and Byron Weinberg edged David Oehm and Eric Chow, 9-7.

In singles action, Ptak suffered a 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 loss to Chamakoon, who is ranked No. 32 in the latest Division III rankings, at the top singles spot. The Rainbow Warriors then captured the Nos. 2-6 singles positions with Diepraam and Jamie Migia, pulling out 6-4 victories in Game 3 of their matches at No. 5 and 6, respectively.

UH continues its five-match/seven-day trip at UC Riverside, Sunday.
