KANEOHE--The University of Hawai`i women's golf team finished the first two rounds of the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational in sixth place with a two-round total of 615. The Rainbow Wahine are hosting the invitational at the 5,829 yard, par-72 Kaneohe Klipper Golf Course.
Freshman golfer Dale Gammie opened round one with a solid par 72 and followed with a three-over-par 75 in the second round to finish in a tie for fourth on the individual leaderboard. Following Gammie is Hawaii's perennial leader, freshman Sara Odelius, who posted a two-round total of 151. Odelius is currently tied for 13th. Also competing for the Rainbow Wahine are sophomore Tara Chappell (154, T22nd) and seniors Rene Krause (163, 40th) and Megan McGuinness (170, T45th).
New Mexico, ranked thrid in the nation by Golf Week/Sagarin, leads the field of 9 teams with an 18-over-par 594. San Diego State is in second place with 601, trailing New Mexico by seven strokes. TCU's Brooke Tull leads all individuals with an even par 144, only one stroke ahead of New Mexico's Christine Fernandez. The final round of the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational will be played tomorrow morning at 7:30 a.m. HST.
