The No. 2 Bruins End the No. 1 Warriors Nine-Match Streak In Four

Honolulu, HI -After extending their win streak against the UCLA Bruins to five on Thursday, the No. 1 Warriors failed to make it six on Saturday night, dropping the match, 3-1 (30-15, 21-30, 30-27, 30-23). The Warriors are drop to 13-3, 8-3 MPSF while the Bruins are now 11-3, 8-2 MPSF.

The Warriors hit .241 for the game, with Delano Thomas putting down a team high 15 kills for the match. Thomas also had one service ace, four digs and four block assists. In addition Pedro Azenha had 14 kills, two service aces, three digs, and one block for the Warriors. Sophomore Jose Delgado slammed down eight kills and had eight digs, while middle blocker Josh Stanhiser put down seven kills and six blocks for the night. Freshman Brian Beckwith dished up 40 assists for the Warriors.

UCLA came out in game one with a vengeance, leading 15-9 by mid game. The Bruins only gave up six more points before capturing the first game, 30-15. Leading the Bruin offense was Paul Johnson with four kills hitting for .500.

In game two the Warriors pulled things together and at 2-3 took off on a six point run, including two kills from Thomas. The Warriors pulled ahead by six at mid game and held a safe lead throughout the game before capturing game two 30-21.

Both teams traded leads for much of game three, but despite six Azenha kills the Warriors were unable to pull it together at the end of the game. At 25-25 the Bruins scored three straight points and eventually captured game three, 30-27 off of a kill from Kris Kraushaar, who had 10 kills for the night. Game four saw a Bruin team determined to go home with a win. The Bruins hit .519 to the Warriors .444 and captured the game, 30-23, and the match.

The Warriors take to the road Monday for a four-match swing through Southern California. They will face the Matadors of Cal State Northridge on Mar. 3 and 5; and the USC Trojans on Mar. 8 and 9.
