TULSA, Okla.--Tulsa ended Hawaii's two-game win streak with a 68-57 decision Thursday night at the Donald Reynolds Center. The Rainbow Wahine dropped to 7-17 and 5-10 in the WAC.
The Golden Hurricane (16-9, 9-6 WAC) used a 12-0 second-half run to break open a close game and win their second straight. Tulsa hit a season-high 11 3-pointers, including five by Megan Moody who tied her career-high with 17 points.
Pam Tambini led three Rainbow Wahine in double-figures with 16 points. Janevia Taylor finished with 15 points, while Jade Abele added 11.
The Rainbow Wahine out-rebounded Tulsa (39-37) and out-shot them at the free throw line (14-9) but could not overcome the Golden Hurricane's hot perimeter game. Tulsa hit more than half of its 3-point attempts (11-21) en route to 41 percent from the floor. UH shot just 34 percent from the floor, including 8-of-27 shooting in the second half.
UH held one brief lead in the first half, 8-7. It was a back-and-forth game for the first 10 minutes of the game until a pair of 3-pointers by Moody gave Tulsa some separation. Tulsa led by as many as nine points, 25-16 with five minutes in the first half. UH battled back with a 11-2 run to tie it up before Becky Heidotten's bucket with three seconds game the Golden Hurricane a two-point advantage at the half.
With the score knotted, 31-31, with 16 minutes left Tulsa made its move, scoring 12 straight points, nine of them from 3-point land. Moody canned two of the 3-pointers in the run to extend the lead to 43-31 with 13 minutes left.
UH next heads to Houston where they will face the first-place Rice Lady Owls, Saturday night at 7 p.m.
