WAIKOLOA, Hawai`i-- The University of Hawai`i men's golf team finished the first round of the Taylor Made/ Waikoloa Intercollegiate in 21st place with a team score of 306. UH-Hilo is hosting the tournament at the 7,074 yard Waikoloa Kings' Golf Course on the Big Island.
Hawai`i stumbled out of the gate as the spring season kicked off in Waikoloa. Senior Matt Kodama set the pace for the Warriors after shooting a two-over par 74 on opening day. Freshman golfer Geoffrey Stevens followed close behind with a three-over par 75 that tied him for 52nd place. Kellen-Floyd Asao, a junior from Pearl City, finished round one tied for 76th place with a four-over par 76. Also competing for UH are freshman Cody Wolfenbarger (40-41, +9) and Pierre-Henri Soero (39-44, +11).
Georgia Tech is leading the 21-team field after posting a team score of 272 in the first round. Georgia Tech's Nicholas Thompson has sole possession of first place after shooting an eight-under par 64. Round two of the 54-hole tournament will begin tomorrow at 8 a.m. PST.
