UH Battles To 1-0 Win Over Boise State

Box Score

WAIPAHU - Robyn deHay had a Senior Night to remember, scoring the game-winning goal in the first half to lift Hawaii to a 1-0 win over Boise State Sunday night at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium. The match, the last regular-season home appearance for 11 Rainbow Wahine seniors, was witnessed by 2,151 fans, the second largest crowd in school history.

With the win UH improved to 11-4-2 overall and 4-2 in conference and moved a step closer to securing a berth in next month's WAC Tournament in Hawaii. The top six teams participate in the tournament as the Rainbow Wahine currently sit in third place in the WAC standings. Boise State dropped to 9-5-1 overall and sit in second in the WAC with a 2-1-1 record.

UH had numerous opportunities to score in the match, but it was deHay who made good for the Rainbow Wahine in the 24th minute. The native of Haleiwa, Oahu, gathered a through ball from midfielder Seline William near the top of the box, cut past a pair of Bronco defenders then sent a left-footed laser that found the inside of the near post. The goal was deHay's third of the year and her first game-winner of the season.

The Rainbow Wahine got off 13 shots in the match and limited the Broncos to just seven. UH had several prime chances to score including a Natasha Kai header that bounced off the crossbar four minutes in, a Gabrielle Bohlman shot from point-blank range that was stuffed by Bronco goalkeeper Kim Parker in the 30th minute and a deHay attempt that sailed over the goal in the 87th minute. The Broncos best opportunity came early in the match when Melanie Bohnet sent a strong, low shot that was saved by a diving Erin Chow.

Kai finished with five shots in the match, giving her a total of 107 on the season, breaking her own single-season of 105 set in her 2002 freshman campaign. The junior striker also moved into second all-time in the category in the WAC with 305.

The Rainbow Wahine now round out its WAC regular season schedule on the road. UH will next face Fresno State on Friday, Oct. 22. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. PDT.
