SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - The Hawai'i men's tennis team suffered a 5-2 loss to Cal Poly, Saturday, to drop to 1-4 on its current six-game road trip through California. The Rainbow Warriors wrap up its road swing at UC Irvine, Sunday.
The Mustangs won all three doubles matches for the early 1-0 lead. But UH responded in singles play with victories at the No. 1 and No. 2 courts as newcomer Dalibor Ptak picked up his fourth consecutive victory and Ryan Sceats won his third straight. Ptak defeated John Nguyen, 6-2, 6-4 and Sceats swept Nick Tracy, 6-0, 6-3.
Cal Poly then took the No. 3-6 singles positions, sweeping three of the matches. Sophomore Bryon Weinberg extended his match to a decisive third set before falling 6-0, 3-6, 7-5 to Matt Baca at No. 3.
The Rainbow Warriors, who won its first match of the season against Western Athletic Conference foe Nevada, Thursday, are 1-8 on the season under first year head coach John Nelson.
