SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - In a match delayed two days due to rain, the Hawai'i men's tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision to San Francisco, at the Olympic Club. The match was delayed on Monday with the score tied at 3-3 after rain postponed the match to Wednesday.
The Dons won the No. 2 doubles court after the team of Bryon Weinberg and Jarrod Diepraam retired after Diepraam couldn’t continue due to illness. USF captured the No. 3 doubles after Timo Kienle and Axel Elvid defeated Derrick Lajola/Burke Marold, 8-5. UH opened doubles play with an 8-3 victory by Dalibor Ptak/Ryan Sceats over Rafael Corazza/Mason Fuller.
In singles play, the Rainbow Warriors won the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 6 singles courts as Ptak, Sceats and Marold posted victories.
“We let the match slip away,” Nelson said. “The match came down to the doubles point and we should have pulled it out but we need to learn from this and move on.”
UH faces Nevada, Thursday, at the Timothy Korth Tennis Complex.
