STANFORD, Calif. – For the second time this season, the Hawai'i men's tennis team dropped a match to the nationally ranked Stanford Cardinal. This time, the Rainbow Warriors (0-5) fell, 5-1, in a match shortened by rain, Tuesday, at the Taube Tennis Center.
Due to periodic rain showers which moved the matches to indoor courts, the teams played all six singles matches but cancelled the doubles contests. The Warriors took the No. 2 singles match won by sophomore Ryan Sceats, who also won his match in the teams’ earlier match-up at the Kapalua Resort.
Sceats defeated Phil Sheng, the same opponent he beat in November, 6-3, 7-6. At the No. 1 court, newcomer Dalibor Ptak took Sam Warburg to three sets, 3-6, 6-3, 6-1.
The Warriors continue its week-long road trip with a match against Saint Mary’s. Yesterday’s match at San Francisco was postponed due to bad weather with the teams’ splitting the six singles matches. The match will be made up at a later date with the score 3-3 and the doubles point needed to be decided.
